Restarting at the beginning - again

Whoever said you have to live with your choices, did not say enough. You may have to live with the choices you make, but the wonderful thing is: you can make more.
It’s been nearly seven months since I jumped ship as a flight attendant to go back to school and become an interior designer. Just seven months and I’ve already turned jobs away.
OK, OK. Those jobs were from family members who just sort of wanted advice. And I didn’t so much turn them away as say “I have no idea. I’m only taking three classes right now and none of them covered this.”
But it’s been fun. It’s been stressful (I’m looking at you, hand drafting!). But the good news is, this seems like something I could stick with for more than five years.
In March I started an internship with a local designer who specializes in window coverings, or as she says, “Natural Light Control.” Who knew there was so much involved in picking curtains? But there is. My god, there is. But it’s fun! The fabrics, the shades, the amount of money people spend! I’m constantly in awe.
She’s taken me to some amazing things, too. The Decorator Showcase House in San Francisco, the kick off event for San Francisco Design Week (where she even got us into the VIP section), and multiple workrooms.
Workroom tours might not sound interesting to all, but I was amazed to see how some workrooms have multiple tables, with many sewing machines, and many people doing things both by machine and by hand; and some workrooms are just one person doing everything – with occasional help from family or friends.
There’s even a secret project I’m working on. I can’t tell you about it just yet. All I can tell you is that it’s going to be fantastic.
